Quietude - Devlog 2

Hi Quietude followers!

This is Rahad speaking! The solo engine programmer for Quietude!
We are currently going through our production phase and are developing Quietude at a consistent rate. The artist are hard at work with developing their assets and providing visual criticism with the way that the level looks, flows and is designed. As mentioned previously, the last development log was published when we had finished our pre-production/ideation phase.

We have our level name, Camp Wood!

We mentioned that quietude would be a stylised project, but then we had to quickly pivot into the project taking on a realistic art style, we realised that this was the right choice for the project as the artists and myself have better resources and accessibility as well as developed skills to create assets with realistic textures and designs. This also helps with artist conceptual art, as both Maja and Abbey (the two artists!) are more comfortable in drawing realism over stylised. They are currently hard at work developing assets for the level and playable character, such as a flashlight, a wooden hut and other camping-friendly assets!

As for the programming side, I am currently developing the core mechanics and designing the level layout to strategically have 4 POI's (Point Of Interest), two of which will have puzzles and the other two will cater towards storytelling via notes and the environment.  Soon after this, I will shift on developing and testing a handful of puzzle designs to identify the best type of puzzles which compliment the design and gameplay flow of Quietude. The level is fairly dark too, so I will most definitely take this into account when developing and waypointing the player through the critical path of the level.

There are plenty of screenshots as to what the level looks like at the moment, so please check them out!

That is all for this dev-log, the next one should be very heavy with information, and keep you updated with the current development of the project!

See you in Camp Wood soon!
